Catania Vincenzo Bellini Airport (CTA)
Airport Information
(Fontanarossa, Catania, Italy)
Conveniently standing just 5 km / 3 miles south of the city centre, the Cantania Fontanarossa International Airport (CTA) is the main gateway to the east coast of Sicily. The facility's single terminal handles in excess of 5.5 million domestic and international passengers every year, making Cantania Airport the region's second-busiest airport and Italy's fourth.
Major airlines such as British Airways, Air France and Lufthansa offer services here and connect numerous European destinations such as Munich, Paris and Amsterdam, while domestic airlines offer extensive flights to many of the regions major destinations. The current 'investment programme' has ensured that Catania Fontanarossa Airport continues to look forward and plan for growth over the next ten years, implementing a whole new infrastructure and making many additions, including a panoramic restaurant, a new airside runway and further office space.
The airport is conveniently located close to the A19 motorway, which links Catania with Palermo and central Sicily, while the E45 motorway runs to Syracuse in the south. A shuttle bus service provides transport into Catania city centre and the Central Train Station, while scheduled bus services to other parts of the island are also available direct from the airport. Passengers requiring a more comfortable ride can take a taxi from the terminal building into the city or beyond, with popular locations including nearby Siracusa, and the westerly resorts of Palermo and Marsala.
About Catania Tourism
Located on the shores of the Ionian Sea on the east coast of the island of Sicily (Sicilia), Catania is considered the gateway to the spectacular backdrop of Mount Etna, Europe's highest volcano. As well as a trip to the volcano, visitors to Catania should seek out the Castello Ursino, which houses a museum dedicated to local history, and the principal square of Piazza del Duomo, which is well worth a visit.
Passengers arriving at Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) will soon discover that the Catania region is also well-known for its Roman ruins, spread around the area and dating from the 2nd and 3rd century, such as the Roman theatre and Odeon theatre, both of which lie on the Via Vittorio Emanuele II.
